Cookie and Advertising Information

Last updated: 11 October 2026

This page explains the cookies and similar technologies (such as local storage) that may be used on SmartPDF, and how to control them. None of them are used to read or transmit your documents.

Strictly necessary

The editor itself needs no cookies. If analytics is enabled, one local-storage entry (smartpdf.analytics-consent) remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics so we don’t ask on every visit.

Analytics (only with your consent)

If enabled, Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) after you choose Accept analytics. They measure visits and a few anonymous editor events. Declining keeps them off; the editor works the same either way.

Advertising

Our informational pages may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may set or read cookies (for example __gads, __gpi, IDE) or use device identifiers to show ads, limit repetition, measure performance and — where you allow it — personalize ads based on your browsing. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to this and other websites.

  • Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are shown a Google-certified consent message before personalized advertising is used, and can change their choice at any time through that message.
  • Anyone can opt out of personalized advertising at Google Ads Settings or optout.aboutads.info.
  • Ads are labelled “Advertisement”, never appear inside the PDF editor, and are kept away from editor buttons.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Blocking advertising cookies may mean you see less relevant ads; it doesn’t affect the editor.
